VICTIMS SUPPORT FUND TRAINS 500 TEACHERS IN THE NORTHEAST

Victims Support Fund has on 16th January 2018 started the step-down training of 500 teachers in Borno Adamawa and Yobe States. This is a follow up to the Train the Trainer exercise that was concluded on 13th January 2018. The objective of this training is to enable teachers to employ teaching techniques that would aid knowledge retention and critical thinking, and also build their capacity to provide classroom management, pedagogy and psychosocial support to students.

The training includes courses on: General Introduction to Student Centered Learning (SCL) Pedagogical Approaches, Classroom Arrangement, Classroom Management, School Records, Formative Assessment, Psychosocial Care, Social & Emotional Learning (SEL),     Classroom Observation and Head Teacher Shadowing.

VSFs assessments revealed that after years of being away from the classroom due to schools closure during the insurgency, it became imperative to train teachers on current and relevant techniques on imparting knowledge as well as psychosocial support.  Building their capacity will enable teachers to provide adequate support and impact to children in post-conflict situations as well as equip them with relevant skills to improve the outcomes of their teaching and their daily interactions with the pupils.
