VICTIMS SUPPORT FUND COMMISSIONS 40 RENOVATED PUBLIC STRUCTURES AND 26 BOREHOLES IN DIKWA, BORNO STATE

The Chairman of The Nigeria Foundation for the Support of Victims of Terrorism (Victims Support Fund) Gen T Y Danjuma commissioned 40 renovated public structures in Dikwa

Local Government Area Borno State on 20th July 2016. This project was executed by the Borno State Government with funding by VSF.

Dr. Sunday Ochoche the Executive Director of VSF, informed that VSF funded the entire project to the tune of two hundred and fifty million naira (250,000,000.00). The renovated structures include hospitals, schools, police barracks, government offices and boreholes. These buildings will serve first as temporary accommodation for over 75,000 IDPs living in Dikwa. The aim of the intervention is to facilitate the re-establishment of local governance and restoration of basic social amenities while creating an enabling environment for return and accelerated recovery.

The Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Dr. Babagana Zulum stated that 24 buildings and three (3) boreholes were originally earmarked for renovation but they had stretched the funds and were able to renovate 40 buildings, 14 deep water boreholes and 12 shallow boreholes.

Speaking at the commissioning, General T Y Danjuma expressed pleasure with the judicious use of resources, and added that Bama Town would also benefit from the reconstruction intervention by VSF.

Governor Kashim Shettima appreciated VSF under the leadership of General T Y Danjuma and assured the people that the government remains committed to accelerate reconstruction and the safe return of IDP families.
